  If society UPHELD the pagan origins of umbrellas would the R and F obey?

  if the society said that umbrellas were indeed pagan, because their origins are, and you would be dfed if you used one do you think the rank and file would obey?

  or do you think that would push them over the edge?

  i can just see the wealthy witness woman you know, the real pretentious ones not going out when it rains etc..

  Great question!

  I am one of the ones that absolutely DEPLORE violent entertainment of any sort, and especially for children. I was thinking of this issue just today, and 100% believe that all the pundits that say that violent entertainment does not beget violence are so way off the mark. Whoever pays them to make those findings must be thrilled that your average joe buys into their rhetoric. I do not.

  I do watch the news, which is sometimes filled with violence, and get family flack for that, but that is reporting. I get no thrill or joy out of it - it just keeps me informed as to what is actually occuring. ENTERTAINMENT that is violent just galls me, as does sport hunting. I agree wholeheartedly that this is a new phenomenon. I'm one of the ones that pine for the movies of yesteryear that didn't glorify violence the way modern ones do, and that basically showed more people of honour and character.

  I know I will be vilified by others for my comments above, so let the bashing begin! Just my 2c.

  here's my premise; one day, out of the blue, you are asked to consult with the gb.

  your told that they have 'new light', armageddon is a spiritual battle and they have 'awakened' to the fact that this system of things will not be going away anytime soon, perhaps not for another 2,000 years!

  with this new understanding they realize that just about everything is going to have to change if they want to survive as an organization.. to deal with this new reality now and into the future they would like to hear ideas that are practical, spiritual, nurturing, helpful and stimulating.. .

  ROME – Demonstration against ostracism and shunning

  on december 1st, a relatively large group of ex-jehovahs witnesses and supporters of human rights held a demonstration in front of the italian parliament in piazza montecitorio.. the manifestation sprung from the reaction of many of those who have been disfellowshipped or expelled by the governance of the jehovahs witnesses cult and who, following the instructions of the watchtower leadership, have been shunned not only by their ex worshipping fellows, but even by the members of their own family.. shunning is an old weapon used by the watchtower leadership against those who stop sharing their views on religious matters and if a demonstration was all that was required to alert the public opinion about it, then it should have been acted upon very long ago.. the reason why the demonstration took place now rather than in the past is because the italian parliament is about to approve a law which would grant the watchtower even more religious freedom and privileges than what it has enjoyed up to now, including the right to receive from the italian state their share of the 0.8% of the income tax revenue paid by the italian tax payers.. while jehovahs witnesses, as an organization, already enjoy a large amount of religious privileges in the country, they claim for themselves from the state the same rights granted to the catholic church and other recognized religious denominations.

  but, contrary to those other religious movements, only jehovahs witnesses violate the human rights granted by the un charter, the european union charter and the italian constitutional rights by shunning those who decide to leave the movement, instructing their members to totally discriminate socially, secularly and even family wise, their ex members.. the objective of the demonstration last wednesday was to alert the public opinion about the issue and, because the place where it was held, alert the italian parliament about the law they are about to approve in favor of the watchtower.

  the demonstration followed the hundreds of letters sent during the last three months by many ex jehovahs witnesses and other supporters of human rights, directly to individual members of the parliament or to the whole parliamentary commission for the constitutional affairs.. what can be said about the demonstration itself; was it a success or a failure?.

  But, contrary to those other religious movements, only Jehovah’s Witnesses violate the human rights granted by the UN Charter, the European Union Charter and the Italian Constitutional rights by shunning those who decide to leave the movement, instructing their members to totally discriminate socially, secularly and even family wise, their ex members.

  This outfit, which claim to be God's chosen organization on earth (gag), violates BASIC human rights granted by, of all things, worldly organizations.

  Thank you Roberto, and all of you, who so bravely shone a spotlight on this side of the religion which has been successfully suppressed from outside scrutiny up till now. Not for very much longer can the WTBTS hide behind their facade of pseudo-righteousness and the protections afforded 'religions'; the rotten underbelly is being spotlighted for all the world to see. BRAVO again.

  Should true Christians listen to symposiums?

  anyone whose been to a circuit assembly or district convention over the past 5 years knows how the society has gone absolutely ape-$#!+ crazy over the word "symposium".. there's a symposium every morning...every afternoon....every multi-talk unit is introduced as a "symposium"...the km articles hyping the assemblies ramble on about how we can look forward with great enthusiasm to all the symposiums....at lunchtime, the talk is all about "oh what a great symposium"...symposium this, symposium that..... anyways, i'm currently reading "the jews in the time of jesus" by stephen wylen, an entry-level discussion of jewish belief in the 2nd temple period concentrating on, not surprisingly, the jews in the time of jesus.. in one chapter he is comparing jewish ritual meals to christian ritual meals, and how the seder morphed into the eucharist.. he talks how the seder was done in the first century, and compares it to a typical hellenistic (greek) banquet.. here's what i found amusing:.

  "at the hellenistic banquet the participants sat on sofas around a low table, dining at leisure.

  meanwhile, they discussed a prepared topic.

  it's been over four years since my youngest brother committed suicide.. afterwards, my siblings and i all lived in different states and had lives to get on with.. we all dealt with danny's loss apart from each other in our own ways.. we lost close touch with each other, but over the last few weeks, we have been.

  reconnecting, my brother finally contacting my sister after over a year of no contact.. .

  dealing with the death of danny was something we all felt we needed to do alone.. .
